A glued-on sole peels within a season. A welted resole is stitched through the same channel the shoe was originally built on, and it holds because of the stitch, not the adhesive.

STAGE ONE

Stripping

Old sole cut away from the welt, not pried off. A rushed strip damages the upper you're trying to save.

STAGE TWO

Welt prep

The welt cleaned and re-stitched where it's worn through. This is what actually holds a resole together, not glue.

STAGE THREE

Soling

New sole stitched to the welt through the same channel the original used, then trimmed to the shoe's actual shape.

STAGE FOUR

Burnishing

The edge sanded, dyed, and burnished by hand until it looks like it was never touched.
